The picturesque pleasures of Pamukkale

It is, of course, Pamukkale, one of Turkey’s better known world heritage sites and a popular stop on many whirlwind tours of the country.

It’s the picturesque snow-white travertines that scoop all the publicity, but in fact Pamukkale is also the site of one of Turkey’s most extensive collections of Roman ruins in the form of ancient Hierapolis. What’s more, the ruins of Laodicea, one of the Seven Churches of Asia mentioned in the Bible, is only a short distance away.
